Elmswell Fire Station has a retained crew of 12. The turn out area covers some 91 Km2 and borders on the ground of Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth, Eye and Stowmarket, covering around 14 surrounding villages (approximately 11000 people) as 1st appliance, but may be called upon for use anywhere in Suffolk.

It attends over 250 calls a year, ranging from house fires, car fires, road traffic accidents, field fires and various rescues of both people and animals. Other work involves working within the community covering such subjects as fire safety, school visits, group visits to the station, talks and demonstrations. Also, fetes and open days.

In 2005 they were award "Best Retained Fire Station in Suffolk".

Drill Nights: Monday 7pm to 9pm.
